Poland's president bashes leaders tapes scandal

Posted: Updated:
WARSAW, Poland (KNOE 8 (NEWS/AP) - Poland's president says government leaders should consider resigning after the leak of a taped recording of the interior minister and the central bank chief discussing a private political deal.

President Bronislaw Komorowski said Poland's coalition government was facing a "crisis" after Wprost magazine last weekend published a transcript of the conversation back in July 2013.

In it, National Bank of Poland chief Marek Belka and Interior Minister Bartlomiej Sienkiewicz discussed how the bank might help the government deal with a budget deficit and win re-election in 2015. The central bank is supposed to be independent from the government.

During a visit Wednesday to northern city of Sopot, Komorowski decried alleged hypocrisy over the case, and said every politician must decide whether to resign.

Opposition parties want the government to resign.
