Racial slur goes viral

Posted: Updated:
RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A racially charged comment, Sent in a private message has made its way into the public eye.

At the center of this controversy, Christian Scott, a Kappa Sigma Fraternity member at Louisiana Tech.

Last week, Tech's fraternities were ranked by their overall grade point average. Kappa Sig's made the bottom of that list. And Scott  sent a  message comparing his fraternity's ranking to those of the two black fraternities on campus by using a racial slur.

Tech has released a statement condemning Scott's comment. The university also says it is investigating the incident and will take action at the appropriate time.

The local chapter of the fraternity refused to comment but did make a statement on Twitter. They also say Scott's comments do not represent their organization.

The national chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity said they learned about the incident on Monday. They said that's when disciplinary action on the matter began.

“Kappa Sigma is quickly and appropriately taking action against the individual that has made this comment. The comment in question is in direct conflict with the Kappa Sigma values. The fraternity will not tolerate such behavior, under any circumstances, and that is where we are at the present time," Executive Director Nic Wilson said.

Scott himself does not deny making the statement.

In fact, he has publicly apologized on social media.

The national organization of Kappa Sigma won't say if Scott is still a member of the local chapter.

As for Tech, the university said it may release another statement later this week.
