Kiroli Park hosts Father's Day Celebration

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Kiroli Park hosted a Father's Day celebration, with hot wings.

James Elmore is spending the day in the park with his daughters, Amber and Mar'Deisha.

Mar'Deisha said her father worked two jobs to provide for his family.

"I think the biggest influence, is teaching me how to be independent, to work, to go to school, to finish, to accomplish what I started,” Mar'Deisha said.

Wing stop of West Monroe set up shop in the park. Alana Belton said this is the first time they have used their new mobile trailer.

"Men love their sports and they love their wings... So kids know what to get them for father's day," Belton said.

Twenty-percent of Wingstop's proceeds from the event will go to Kiroli Park's new smiles playground.

The West Monroe Civitan Club is overseeing that project.

Club president Jay Mitchell said the playground will be enjoyed by all children.

"The playground is going to be constructed and designed that kids with disabilities are going to be able to play on the playground, safely and enjoy it, just like the kids that don't have disabilities,” Mitchell said.

And Elmore said even with heat, he couldn't think of a better way to spend father's day and being a dad is the best job he's ever had.

Wingstop wrapped up the father's day celebration with an Atomic Wing Eating Challenge

Only two men stepped up to the dinner plate and battled it out head to head.

In the end only one man could be the champion. Timothy Littles won the title by eating 11 wings in three minutes.

"We just come out to the park today and my kids decided, they though it would be a good idea. So I decided I would try to eat some hot wings and make them proud of me," Littles said.

This was the first time Little had entered a wing eating challenge. He took home a 30-pack of chicken wings and t-shirt from Wingstop.
