Warrant Amnesty coming to Monroe

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Monroe City Court will hold a one month Warrant Amnesty Program for persons with outstanding warrants.

Beginning June 11, 2014 and continuing through July 11, 2014, the Court will hold a forgiveness program for individuals with outstanding warrants from 2006 to present. During this period, the Court will allow defendants with outstanding warrants to pay their charges without fear of arrest.

If you appear in person during the amnesty period on a charge, you will not be arrested. The Monroe City Court is located at 600 Calypso Street, Monroe, LA 71201. Payments of fines and court costs can be made by cash, money order, or cashier’s check only between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM at the Court’s Cashier Window.

No personal checks or debit/credit cards will be accepted. In the event you are unable to pay fines and court costs by July 11, 2014, the Court still urges you to come into the Clerk’s Office no later than July 11, 2014 to address your outstanding warrant(s).

If your charges require you to appear in Court, you may come into the Clerk’s Office in person during the amnesty period (June 11, 2014- July 11, 2014) and sign-up for the court date of July 18, 2014. On July 18, 2014, you must appear before the judge who issued the warrant. The Court will NOT accept walk-ins on July 18, 2014—you must sign-up in advance for this court date during the amnesty period.

If you believe you have an outstanding warrant with the Monroe City Court issued on or after January 1, 2006, or have questions about the Amnesty Program, please contact the Clerk of Court’s Office at (318) 329-2580 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday for more information.

All persons with warrants are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the Court’s limited amnesty offer. The Court recognizes that some individuals have outstanding warrants for their arrest because they have overlooked a court date. Regardless of the reason for the outstanding warrant, failure to clear your record and resolve any outstanding warrants creates the constant threat of imprisonment. The Court therefore urges all eligible persons with warrants to take advantage of this program.
