Posted: Updated:
OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Homes in Ouachita Parish on the south end of Highway 165 have been known to flood, with a new project now done some of those concerns are gone.

Ouachita Parish Police Juror, Pat Moore has been working hard to fix a major flooding problem with in her district.

The flooding in this canal was becoming a headache, that she could no longer bare.

More than $400 thousand dollars from a grant given to the parish went into making sure this canal was clear of vegetation and a couple of other things that shouldn't have been in there.

The residents won't see the affect of a clean canal until a heavy rain comes, but Moore says you can already see how much of a difference it will make.

The money for the flood protection project was taken from the 1-point-5 million dollars that was given to the parish by President Obama in 2009.
