Pecanland Mall/Millhaven project update

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - After several hiccups along the way, the I-20 Economic Development Board has completed it's part of the Pecanland Mall Drive-Millhaven project.

Though the board is done, the road is still not open.

Marshall Hill with the DOTD calls the project "a long time coming." Groundbreaking on the project was on February 6, 2013, and after stop-and-go construction, engineers finished the road this year.

"It will be a good project, says Hill, "it's going to add a turning lane to LA 594 (Millhaven)."

The extension project may be done, but the road can't open until there's a red light. The red light can't go up until there's a turning lane on Millhaven.

"Any time you have a left turn car in front of you, it backs up behind you. So this turning lane should help alleviate some of that," says Hill talking about traffic issues on Millhaven.

It will also help stop people from driving around others turning left.

"We sure do not want people driving on the shoulder to go around them and this should help with that, you know it's a pretty complicated project dealing with KCS Railroad and how that traffic signal is going to work."

The light and railroad crossing will be synchronized, and will allow for the entire project to be completed.

"That's going to be later this year, we will tie that section of roadway in and it will all be operational at the same time," says Hill.

Again, the DOTD says work will start back up in August or September, and by the first of next year the road will be open.
