McAllister in Madison Parish touring port

Posted: Updated:
MADISON PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News)- The Mississippi River has a deep history for transporting goods, and Madison Parish business leaders want to keep it that way.

Rep. Vance McAllister was in Tallulah to tour the port to see what can be done to keep the port viable for future generations.

Port Commission Director Terry Murphy says developing this land would create more jobs.

The port is already seeing a lot of business, but Murphy says there is always room for more.

He says he needs the help of the congressman to make that happen.

Right now the port is upgrading some areas to make them attractive to businesses, and more upgrades are planned.

The port has 500 acres of land just waiting for a future.
