Sisters admit to scheme to get housing fund

LAFAYETTE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - A former Lafayette Housing Authority worker and her sister have pleaded guilty in a scheme to secure improper housing subsidies to cover the mortgage payments on a home they inherited.

Former LHA worker Rhonda Hebert and her sister, Adrea Hebert, were indicted in March on federal fraud charges.

Federal prosecutors said the two women devised a scheme to have Rhonda Hebert's former boyfriend apply for Section 8 housing vouchers - federal subsidies used to help low-income families afford housing in the private market - for a home the sisters inherited in Lafayette.

The Hebert sisters entered their pleas on Monday.

Court document say the $7,170 in fraudulently obtained housing assistance has been repaid.
