More details come to light about suspected murder-suicide

Posted: Updated:
WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - There are new details about a suspected murder-suicide in West Monroe over the weekend. We know what led police to the Camellia Trace Apartments. That's where the bodies of Katelin Dulaney and her two daughters were found.

These two girls, 4-year-old Adeleen Forbis and 3-year old Laila Forbis were murdered Saturday. Police suspect, at the hands of their mother.

"This investigation is still in its infancy. This is something that is being taken very seriously, like with any crime, so things could change at a moment’s notice if a piece of information comes to light that we haven't found at this point," Corporal Jade Gabb said.

Jade Gabb said police were notified around on Saturday afternoon that something was wrong.

"A family member had gone to the home and could not get anyone to the door. They contacted us and we responded. From the initial findings, looking in the window, it appeared someone was in some type of distress,” Gabb said.

Gabb said the windows and doors were locked, so police had to break a window.

"It is pointing to what it looks like an unfortunate event of a murder suicide. It does appear the mother did take the life of the two children and then took her own life,” Gabb said.

Gabb will not say why police believe this is a murder-suicide.

A source close to the investigation said Delaney drowned one daughter, shot the other and then turned the gun on herself.

Police have released the crime scene and one of Dulaney's neighbors said she cleaned the apartment and maintenance secured the window.

Dulaney's car remains in its space.

The girls’ bodies were given to their father and funeral arrangements are being handled in Ruston. Their mother's services will be handled by riser funeral home in Columbia.

The Ouachita Parish Coroner has preliminary autopsy results, but will not release any details until he's gathered more information.
