Horse Farm park plan heads to council

Posted: Updated:
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - If the Lafayette City-Parish Council approves the master plan this week, preparation can begin on the blueprints for turning the former University of Louisiana at Lafayette Horse Farm into a community park.

The council at its regular meeting Tuesday is expected to consider a resolution approving and adopting the master plan for the park.

In 2012, the city gave the university an 8-acre park and $5.8 million to save the property from commercial development. Lafayette Central Park Inc. was created to raise money to build and maintain the park.

Elizabeth Brooks, director of planning and design for Lafayette Central Park Inc., says groundbreaking could take place this fall.
