Moonlight in the Garden at the Biedenharn

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The first of three Moonlight in the Garden events at the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens will feature guided tours of the Bible Museum and Coke Floats in beautiful ELsong Gardens Friday, June 13, 2014 from 7 - 10:00 pm. Admission to the event is $5.00 per person. Guests should enter at the Riverside gate near the corner of Riverside and Forsythe in Monroe's Garden District.

Museum Director Ralph Calhoun will lead tours of the Bible Museum throughout the evening giving in-depth information about the various items exhibited in the museum's six display areas. Mr. Calhoun's tour will look at Bibles, Russian Icons, sculpture, classical archaeology and a series of modern spiritual paintings by Pamela Nelson titled Psalms, Fragments of Faith. Special emphasis will be given to the Gutenberg and King James Bibles and an exhibit of sculptor Gib Singleton's Fourteen Stations of the Cross.

ELsong Gardens will also be open during the evening. Visitors are encouraged to stroll the grounds enjoying the sights of the garden as the sun sets and during the dark of night. The garden has an entirely different feel after the sun goes down and many area residents attend Moonlight in the Garden on a regular basis to enjoy this special aspect of nature at night. People are also drawn to this monthly event by the Coke Floats - Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream and Coca-Cola - which are part of admission. Annual passes are good for admission to this event.

Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream for the Coke Floats is donated by the Creamery.

The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens is located at 2000 Riverside Drive, Monroe, LA. It is open for tours from 10:00 to 5:00 Tuesday - Saturday and during special events like Moonlight in the Garden. Regular admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children under twelve years old. For more information call 318-387-5281 or visit bmuseum.org.
