Mother allegedly kills children, takes her own life

UPDATE:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The West Monroe Police Department says they are still investigating the suspected murder suicide that occurred over the weekend.

Police said it appears Katelin Dulaney killed her children, 4 year-old Adeleen Forbis and 3-year old Laila Forbis, and then killed herself.

They said they are looking at all possibilities, but don’t have a person of interest or suspect.

Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston is handling Adeleen and Laila’s funeral arrangements.

At this time, Dulaney’s funeral arrangements are unknown.

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The community is still trying to come to terms with deaths of two little girls allegedly at the hands of their own mother.  Police say it appears Katelin Dulaney killed her children, 4 year-old Adeleen Forbis and 3-year old Laila Forbis and then killed herself.

Dulaney's upstairs neighbor, John Freeman, said he just can't seem to wrap his head around what happened. He said he spoke with Dulaney the day she died, and he said she seemed okay. Freeman said Dulaney was actually moving from the apartment complex and she mentioned looking forward to the change.

However, little is known about Dulaney. Neighbors said she kept to herself, but was always outside watching her girls play. According to her Facebook she graduated from Louisiana Tech and she also has photography for sale online.

One neighbor, Heidi Budai, said Dulaney always seemed to have a good life.

"It’s very surprising. She is really pretty. She doesn't fit of what you would think of 'oh that person has problems.’"

Mental health expert and family therapist Ned Jabour said a lack of close relationships can be a tale-tale sign of mental instability.

"They like to put that fafacadeociable and friendly but they never actually get into the actual act of being friendly and making friends," Jabour said.

Jabour said if this case is a murder-suicide as police suspect, Dulaney could have been suffering from depression. He said it's common in these scenarios for a mother to feel her children are better off with her, even if she no longer wants to live.

And now a community is in mourning, wondering what could have possibly gone wrong.
