150 soldiers from Monroe-based unit to be deployed to Kuwait

BATON ROUGE, La. (KNOE 8 News) – Soldiers of the Louisiana National Guard’s 528th Engineer Battalion are scheduled to bid farewell to family and friends during a deployment ceremony, June 3, in Monroe, Louisiana.

The Monroe-based unit will deploy more than 150 Soldiers to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom by providing command and control of vertical and horizontal construction missions and projects to include maintaining and/or upgrading base camps and road networks.

The unit will conduct mobilization training at Fort Bliss, Texas, before deploying overseas during the 365-day deployment.

The 528th has deployed once before to Afghanistan in 2004 and participated in the state response and recovery operations of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, Ike, and Isaac, as well as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and flood operations in 2011.
