Dveil Freeman sentenced to life in prison

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - KNOE 8 News has learned that Dveil Freeman has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Freeman was found guilty of murder in March of this year.  He was a known drug trafficker in East Carroll Parish.  Freeman shot and killed 42-year-old David Green back in March of 2010 at the Hillco Apartments near the Monroe Airport.

In today's sentencing, Freeman was given life without parole in the murder charge.  In six of his other seven charges, 4th District Attorney Gary Haycock says he has filed an habitual offender bill.  If he's found to be a habitual offender bill, Freeman will receive six additional life sentences.  Currently, for the additional charges he is facing 30 years.

Freeman was also ordered to pay $250,000 in fines and damages.
