RUSTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Ruston handyman performing work at a woman’s house in Union Parish was arrested Tuesday on warrants accusing him of extortion, improper telephone communications and theft.

Christopher Roberson, 28, of Florida St., was booked into the Union Parish Detention Center with total bond set at $9,350.

Sheriff Dusty Gates said investigators were able to recover some stolen items, valued between $500 to $1,500, from a pawn shop in Ruston after the victim filed a complaint.

During the investigation, deputies reported that Roberson contacted the sheriff’s office to find out what the investigation involved. Afterwards, the victim was able to record the suspect when he called her and threatened to report her as a drug offender if she did not drop her complaint.

The victim turned the recording over to investigators in March and warrants were issued for Roberson’s arrest.
