Natchez board approves casino signs

Posted: Updated:

NATCHEZ, Miss. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Amid a dispute between the city of Natchez and Magnolia Bluffs Casino, the Natchez Board of Aldermen has voted to amend the city code to allow casinos to install off-premise signs.

Alderman Dan Dillard made a motion Tuesday to direct the city planner to prepare an amendment to the city's sign ordinance to allow the signs.

Magnolia Bluffs Casino's sign has been a topic of discussion between city and casino officials. Mayor Butch Brown broke a 3-3 tie vote at the last board of aldermen meeting to allow the casino to move its sign farther up Roth Hill.

Dillard stated the off-premise gaming signs be similar to that of the Natchez National Historical Park sign in front of Melrose and be allowed one fixed light.
