Federal energy secretary tours southeast Louisiana

PORT FOURCHON, La. (KNOE 8 News/WWL) The Federal Energy Secretary spent the day touring Southeast Louisiana to see first-hand how important the area is to the nation's energy industry.

Ernest Moniz made his first visit to the huge oil industry supply center at Port Fourchon, which sits next to the Gulf of Mexico near Grand Isle.

Port Fourchon sends supplies ranging from drilling pipe to food to 90% of the deep-water platforms in the gulf.

Secretary Moniz said he sees the importance and the needs of Port Fourchon.

"It really matters to see the real stuff that's happening, and not just see a photograph of it. You get an idea of scale, and what it means to be servicing this huge gulf offshore industry," Moniz said.

Senator Mary Landrieu wanted Secretary Moniz to see Port Fourchon up close, but also to learn about the coastal restoration needs which she wants to find federal funding for.
