9 vie to lead Calcasieu schools

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Nine candidates are seeking to replace retiring Calcasieu Parish schools superintendent Wayne Savoy.

The American Press reports the district begins interviews Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. District spokeswoman Kirby Smith says Kirk Credeur, assistant superintendent for Jeff Davis Parish schools, is the only interview scheduled.

On Saturday, four more candidates face questions beginning at 9 a.m. Scheduled are Marcus D. Jackson, a middle school principal in Georgia; Charles Michel, supervisor of special education for Lafourche Parish schools; Shirl Edward Gilbert II, head of turnaround schools and Title I monitoring for East Baton Rouge Parish schools; and Corwin Robinson, director of schools for Lake County in Tiptonville, Tennessee.

The final four will interview next week.
