Monroe PD drops relationship with Metro Narcotics

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) -We have new developments in the recent internal Monroe Police Department study we first reported on Monday.

We've learned that Monroe Police has pulled all three of it's officers out of Metro Narcotics to re-assign elsewhere in the department.  Metro Narcotics is comprised of Monroe Police, West Monroe Police, and the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office to combat drugs in the parish.

Metro Narcotics commander Jay Ellerman tells us that this will impact the unit.

Ellerman says he was told that after Monroe Police hires more people and they're trained in July, Monroe Police will assign officers back to the unit.

Until then, Ellerman says they're not sure how to fill the void.

A meeting is set up with the remaining Metro Narcotics board members to discuss different options.
