Teachers pack up classrooms for good at Southside Elementary

MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News)- This week the final bell will ring at one Morehouse Parish School.

Southside Elementary is in it's final days.

With students pretty much done with the school year, today teachers began packing their classrooms.

Southside Pre-K teacher Daryl Caldwell and second grade teacher Minnie Grimes are having a hard time accepting tomorrow.

Going into the year, they never thought their school would be closing it's doors for good, but after multiple attempts to fix a $3.7 million defect without closing any schools the Morehouse Parish School Board decided to do away with Southside.

The two teachers have taught students that walked the halls of Southside for a combined 25 plus years.

In the boxes that were packed are years of memories, which they hope mean as much to the students as it does to them.

The school district is hoping to fit most of the students at Henry V. Adams in Bastrop.

They are trying to determine if they will need to secure some portable classrooms to make that happen.
