British company plans third pellet plant

MAGNOLIA, Miss. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Permit and grant applications show the same company that's building a wood pellet mill in Gloster is planning one in Magnolia.

Pike BioEnergy LLC shares directors and addresses with Amite BioEnergy LLC, which announced plans to build a 45-employee mill in Gloster in 2012.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality began seeking public comment on the construction plan Friday.

The Enterprise-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1o6KAFF) Pike County supervisors are also seeking public comment plans to use federal community development money and a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Agency.

A unit of Drax Group PLC is already spending more than $200 million to build mills in Gloster and near Bastrop, Louisiana, each capable of producing 450,000 metric tons per year. The British company plans to burn the pellets to generate electricity.
