Major copper theft ring broken up in Newellton

NEWELLTON, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A month long investigation in to copper thefts at the old Tensas Medical Center in Newellton has led to the arrest of 5 men. 

Sheriff officials have arrested Terry Wheeler, Arthur Hudson, M. Dunn, and L. Davis all of Tallulah.  D. Jordan of Vicksburg, Mississippi has also been arrested.

The Newellton Police Department in cooperation with the Tensas Parish Sheriff’s Office, Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office learned the men were systematically removing the cooper from the Medical Center in Newellton.  Damages range in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Sheriff officials also accuse the men of stealing from the New Birth Christian Center (the old Tensas Nursing Home).  Damages there are close to $45,000. 

During the investigation the of Officers with Newellton police department, as well as, investigator’s from Tensas Parish and Madison Parish Sheriff’s Offices learned that several buildings in Madison Parish been stripped of their alloys as well as well as a shutdown Warren County, Miss. industrial building was actively being stripped of its alloys.  The Warren County Sheriff’s office is investigating.

The Newellton police are still trying to locate two suspects Demarcus Fountain of Tallulah and Derrick Jackson of Vicksburg, MS.  If you have any information on the whereabouts of these individuals please contact your local police department.
