Cassidy condemns VA for not providing adequate care

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (KNOE 8 News)  – Congressman Bill Cassidy released the following statement following Veterans’ Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki testifying before the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs:

“What the VA has allegedly done is another example of what happens when the government controls healthcare. The system lines up to serve the bureaucrat—when the bureaucrat has the power, the patient suffers. The recent deaths of veterans waiting for care proved this point. Because it’s affecting our veterans, it’s even more horrifying and inexcusable. I fully support an investigation into this matter, and will continue to push for patient-centered reforms. Every American should have access to quality medical care.”

Many veterans have approached Dr. Cassidy for assistance on their claims, and to request action to reform the VA. Mr. Lynn King, President of the Livingston Parish Veterans’ Association, provided the following statement on the federal VA system within Louisiana:

“Since assuming my duties in 2009 as President and Chairman of the Livingston Parish Veterans’ Association, I find at this time, I must address some very serious concerns and displeasure that our veterans are experiencing with the current VA system. I receive complaints from our members that our veterans are not given the proper treatment that they deserve. Some of our members are coming home from distant lands missing body parts, mental functions, and are suffering a host of other war related symptoms for which they should be entitled to proper care, consideration, and respect, but what they are finding is disillusionment and a VA system that is riddled with corruption, incompetence, lack of concern and a condescending attitude.

“I condemn this in the strongest possible way, no excuses. Let us clean this mess up for the sake our beloved veterans.”
