Substitute bus driver suspended after leaving child on bus

LAFAYETTE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Lafayette Parish school officials have suspended a substitute bus driver pending an investigation of a report that a 10-year-old student was left on the school bus at the end of the route Monday afternoon.

Angela Morrison, school district spokeswoman, says  the student had fallen asleep and exited the bus when the driver stopped to run a personal errand.

Morrison says a neighbor noticed the student and called the parent, who located the student. The student was not injured.

Morrison says the driver is a Lafayette Parish school system transportation office employee who also fills in as needed as a substitute driver due to the shortage of substitutes.
