OPSB to consider extra curricular activity rules change

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Ouachita Parish School Board will meet Tuesday morning to discuss a variety of proposals.

One specific proposal will center on the district's extra curricular activities rules.

The district plans to change rules for activities for high schools and middle school students.  Students will have to attend a district school in order to participate in extra-curricular activities.  Football, band, cheerleading, and other activities will exclude home school student participants.

Randy Hammett tells KNOE 8 News that principals have decided that they wanted students who attended their schools to have first opportunities to participate in activities.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has left it up to principals to make decisions regarding home school participation.  In Ouachita Parish, the board will vote to adopt the decision of principals in the district.
