Monroe police investigating 3 shootings

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- The Monroe Police Department investigated shootings on S. 1st and Erin streets and a drive by shooting on Hyppolite Street.

Monroe Police Chief Quentin Holmes says the weather does play a part in the increased violence. That's why he's encouraging the community to get involved in detouring teens from crime.

The shooting on the south first street started off as a party and ended with shots fired, six of them.

Chief Holmes says officers will be working the streets very heavily this summer to put a cap on unnecessary violence.

Residents we talked with want to know just how many officers will be working at any given time.

Holmes says as many as 25 officers will be assigned per shift.
