New Warren County industry to create 366 jobs

VICKSBURG, Miss. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs says a European safety shoe manufacturer will open its first American location, creating 366 jobs over five years.

Republican Gov. Phil Bryant and Democratic Congressman Bennie Thompson are set to make the announcement Monday.

The business will locate in the former CalsonicKansei factory in the Ceres Research & Industrial Interplex in eastern Warren County.

The Warren County Board of Supervisors and Warren County Port Commission in April approved a $2 million loan to buy the building and $1.9 million in federal community development money to pay for infrastructure improvements.

Port Authority Executive Director Wayne Mansfield declined last week to discuss details.

CalsonicKansei made emissions equipment for Nissan Motor Co. in the 135,000 square-foot building. It closed the factory in 2007, laying off or relocating 130 workers.
