VICKSBURG, Miss. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Sam Washington, a pilot with a master's degree in business administration and a master's degree in commercial aviation, is the new director of the Vicksburg Municipal Airport.

Washington is an instructor at Delta State University's School of Aviation and a commander in the Civil Air Patrol.

He was hired this past week by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Washington replaces Curt Follmer, who retires Monday after serving five years as the airport's director.

Follmer was paid $60,000 a year to run the airport. Washington will be paid $35 an hour for working 20 hours a week, according to information for the city's human resources office.

Washington plans to commute to Vicksburg from Cleveland two to three times a week to work at the airport.
