WEST MONROE, LA. (KNOE 8 News) - For the first time, Louisiana is participating in the state games. From now until May 31, amateur sports enthusiasts can sign up to compete in different sporting events each weekend.

On Saturday, the games kicked off with an archery competition at the Ouachita Parish Rife Range.

This competition will continue on Sunday and the winners will have the opportunity to advance to the national games.

"You don't have to have done whatever it is before. You can be a beginner and never had done it before. We have people here who have never shot before. Anybody can participate. You don't have to be from Louisiana to participate,” Kim Lord with the Northeast Louisiana Archery Association said.
