Ark. AG: Focused on trying to suspend marriage ruling

Posted: Updated:
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A spokesman says Attorney General Dustin McDaniel is focused on trying to suspend a decision striking down the state's gay marriage ban, and it'll be up to county clerks on how to proceed.

Spokesman Aaron Sadler said Saturday that McDaniel is communicating with the Association of Arkansas Counties staff to help them formulate advice to county clerks after a judge voided the state's ban on same-sex marriage. Sadler said the clerks will have to follow the advice of their own lawyer and proceed as they see fit.

McDaniel on Friday asked Piazza to stay his ruling to prevent any licenses from being issued while he appeals to the state Supreme Court. No stay had been issued as Carroll County began issuing licenses to same-sex couples on Saturday.
