MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe man is in jail after Monroe Police, the District Attorney's office, and the FBI investigated an attempted kidnapping.

Earlier this week, officials say that Deedrich Bethley attempted to take a 13-year-old female from her school.

Monroe Police say Bethley attempted to check a 13 year old girl from a Monroe City School. Bethley allegedly told school officials he was an uncle of the girl and was there to check her out of school for a doctor appointment.

School officials became suspicious of Bethley and obtained his identification and notified a parent via phone of the incident. Bethley left the school and the student was never released from school grounds.

Monroe Police were notified and during the investigation discovered that Bethley and the 13 year old female student had been communicating via computer and text messages where sexually explicit messages, photos, and other evidence had been sent to one another.

On Thursday morning, the FBI, Monroe Police, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, and the District Attorney's office conducted a raid of the Bethley's residence on Conrad Avenue.

He was arrested and has been charged with attempted kidnapping and computer solicitation of a juvenile.

Sgt. Mark Johnson says that even though the juvenile participated in setting up the sexual encounter, because of her age, charges for kidnapping are warranted.
