8 cited in Arkansas for wildlife violations

Posted: Updated:

WHITE CLIFFS, Ark. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says wildlife officers have uncovered multiple violations at a property in southwest Arkansas.

The commission says officers who inspected the facility in Sevier County spotted an exotic axis deer along with elk and white-tailed deer.

Officials say wildlife officers cited the owner of the 1,300-acre high-fence enclosure along with seven others on violations including hunting wildlife out of season, night hunting, hunting without a license, checking and tagging violations and the illegal taking of alligator.

The commission says officers are working with biologists to make sure the animals are in compliance with state regulations and do not pose a health concern to Arkansas' wildlife.

If convicted, the eight people could face fines exceeding $35,000 and the loss of hunting and fishing privileges.
