2 dead after fiery crash on I-10 Friday night

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Eastbound Interstate 10 over the Atchafalaya River basin remains closed Saturday after a fiery crash killed two people Friday evening.

State police Trooper Greg Marchand says Ricky and Karen Chester, a husband and wife from Ohio, died in the crash. For reasons troopers are still investigating, 56-year-old Ricky Chester didn't stop in a traffic backup, and his 18-wheeler hit the back of another. Two more trucks were rear-ended in a chain reaction, for a total of four.

The trailer of the first truck that Chester hit fell over the railing of the elevated highway to the ground. Driver Darren Robinson of Baton Rouge suffered minor injuries.

The Chesters' truck caught fire, as did another truck up the chain. The Chesters died at the scene.
