Another candidate steps forward in Congressional 5th District

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A second candidate has stepped forward in the Congressional 5th District. Clay Grant is a Libertarian candidate from Boyce. So far, he and Ed Tarpley, (R) Alexandria, are the only two candidates.

Here's Clay Grant's announcement:

I, Clay Grant, am announcing my candidacy for Congress here in District 5 of Louisiana. My intentions as to why I am running are simple; we need to restore Honor and bring Liberty back to this nation. George Washington once said, “
The time is near at hand which must determine whether Americans are to be free men or slaves.” I refuse to allow our current elected officials to dictate our rights, when we are endowed with certain unalienable rights that shall not be taken away from any American citizen.
During my 2012 congressional run, I learned that most citizens want someone who is willing to fight for the people, someone who will speak up and be heard, who will stand for truth and justice, even if he/or she is standing alone. I am running because I chose to answer the call, to be a George Washington, “It is not enough to do our best; sometimes we must do what is required.”
We must reign in government spending; we need to cut spending and cut taxes by 50% not 10, 20, or 30 years down the road, but now!

Reduce Federal Involvement in the Economy: reject auto and banking bailouts, state bailouts, corporate welfare, cap-and-trade, card check, and the mountain of regulation that protects special interests rather than benefiting consumers or the economy.
Repeal the Affordable Care Act! I favor restoring and reviving a free market health care system. We recognize the freedom of individuals to determine the level of health insurance they want (if any), the level of health care they want, the care providers they want, the medicines and treatments they will use and all other aspects of their medical care. People should be free to purchase health insurance across state lines.
The protection of individual rights is the only proper purpose of government. Government is constitutionally limited so as to prevent the infringement of individual rights by the government itself. The principle of non-initiation of force should guide the relationships between governments.
The people in District 5 of Louisiana deserve to be represented by someone who is willing to take on big government, but also someone who will not forget that we have problems right here at home. We need to increase our vocational and training schools throughout the state to allow easier access to those seeking a skill. We need to work with employers in Louisiana to help and train the workforce so we can grow a strong and healthy economy right here at home. The people of this district want more good paying jobs, so that are friends, relatives and children will stay closer to home, we need to be an employer friendly state and work with big companies to expand their businesses to Louisiana.
Military Personnel and Retirees:
We shall not reduce the pay or benefits to those who willingly serve this great nation. We need to make sure that our military veterans are well cared for, and we can start by doubling the salary of all military personnel. If elected, I will make sure that our service men and women get the best treatment during and after their service.
Gun Rights
Restricting our gun rights, whether federal, state or local, will only result in denying the rights of law-abiding citizens. We must not allow criminals the ability to harm others, but allow our citizens the right to defend themselves and their families. Supporting our Second Amendment is vital for a free and safe society.
Taxes
Abolish the Federal Income Tax, repeal the 16th Amendment, and allow the people to prosper from the fruits of their labor.
We are taxed enough already, and the Federal Government continues to spend us into economic collapse. I will fight to eliminate the income tax, and reduce government spending, and reign in big government.
We can start by Eliminating:
The Department of Energy
The Department of Education
The Department of Housing and Urban Development
The Department of Commerce
The Department of Interior
The Department of Homeland Security
The IRS
Audit the Federal Reserve
Etc…
