Possible move out of downtown for St. Francis

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Downtown Monroe could possibly lose one of it's long standing fixtures.

The historic St. Francis Downtown campus is made up of multiple buildings remodeled multiple times over the past 100 years, and just recently a whole new emergency room was put into use..

However, even with constant improvement projects, St. Francis CEO Louis Bremer says the laundry list of problems the facility is facing is too much to bear.

The medical center's board of advisors voted to hire a consultant to help determine what would be in the best future interests of saint francis.

Bremer says if St. Francis does leave downtown it will be permanent and not just a temporary move to rebuild on this site.

Bremer says hospital leaders are leaning toward the idea of consolidating with the north campus, because more than three million dollars could be saved yearly just on maintenance and utility bills.

Bremer told KNOE a decision on the future of the downtown campus could come before the end of the year.

However, moving out of the facility like this would not be an overnight process especially after 100 plus years.
