Heartbreaking video shows kids as ferry sinks

SEOUL, South Korea (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The father of a high school student who was among more than 220 people confirmed to have died in the sinking of a South Korean ferry says he wants the world to see the ship's condition as it went down.

He has provided video of the disaster from his son's cellphone, recovered when rescuers found the 17-year-old's body.

In the clips, nervous laughter can be heard as the students huddle below deck soon after the ferry began to tilt. The teens talk of taking selfies, wonder if they'll make the news and discuss posting about the excitement later on Facebook.

As the listing becomes worse, some say they feel dizzy and their legs are shaking. Two minutes before the ferry's first distress call, one student asks: "Am I really going to die?"

Several times they are warned over the loudspeaker to stay where they are, even as the tilting increases and it becomes less possible to flee.

The tragedy has left more than 300 people dead or missing, with more than 80 percent of the victims from one high school.
