Man wanted in Louisiana to face charges in Utah after standoff

SALT LAKE CITY (KNOE 8 News/AP) - A man suspected in a Louisiana killing has been charged in Utah after police say he held an infant hostage in a car on a southern Utah highway.

Prosecutors on Tuesday filed aggravated kidnapping and other charges against 28-year-old Zeland Adams.

Police say he surrendered and safely released the boy about 5:30 p.m. Sunday after a five-hour standoff that snarled traffic on Interstate 15 in both directions.

Adams' attorney Jack Burns did not immediately return phone messages from The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Louisiana authorities say they had been seeking Adams and four other suspects on an arrest warrant in the murder of 27-year-old Quincy Wafer of Kent, Washington.

Officials say Wafer was shot and burned before he was left near a motel in Louisiana's northeastern city of Tallulah.
