Forecast: La and Miss in for days of nasty weather

NEW ORLEANS (AP/KNOE 8 News) - The National Weather Service says Louisiana and Mississippi are in for days of nasty weather.

Forecasters say thunderstorms Sunday could bring damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes to north Louisiana and north Mississippi. Storms are expected to stall over the area. That means a chance of flash flooding and river flooding through Tuesday.

The weather service says northeast Louisiana and north and central Mississippi are likely to get the worst of the storms. But it says all kinds of severe weather will be possible across both states.

The heaviest rains are expected Monday evening into Tuesday, with another round of heavy rains possible Tuesday afternoon and evening. The weather service expects a cold front early Wednesday to end the threat of heavy rain.

Meteorologist Amanda Jellig says the ArkLaMiss could see up to 3 inches of rain. With that in mind, the Monroe Public Works department began filling sandbags Saturday evening. For sandbags, you can pick those up from 1350 Grammont St in Monroe, behind the Civic Center.
