Suspect leads deputies on chase, police unit damaged

MOREHOUSE PARISH, La. (KNOE) - A Morehouse Parish man is arrested after leading police on a chase, and a patrol unit is damaged after being rammed from behind.

The Morehouse Parish Sheriff Office received a call from a residence on Wilkins Drive of a disturbance with a suspect armed with a pistol. The suspect left the location before units arrived.

The vehicle was located on South Washington Street where the suspect was stopped. Deputies say the driver, Sean Nelson, sped off with deputies in pursuit. Deputies sat Nelson ran through several stop signs and an active school zone and disregarded all attempts to stop him.

During the pursuit a MPSO unit was rammed from behind causing damage to the patrol unit. Deputies were able to stop Nelson on the Crossett Road. Deputies say Nelson then ran from the vehicle and was caught after a short foot pursuit. Deputies found a handgun on Nelson after he was handcuffed.

He faces the following charges:
Agg. Battery of a Police Officer
Agg. Flight from an office
Felon in poss. Of a firearm
Resisting an officer
Obstruction of a Highway
DWI
