Zoo hosts annual Easter Eggstravaganza

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - On Saturday, the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo hid more than 20,000 eggs for the annual Easter Eggstravaganza.

Divided by age groups, the event brought in more than a thousand participants. The zoological society hosted the event, with all proceeds going to support various zoo projects.

Drew Fluke said those projects include renovations, upkeep and bringing new animals to Monroe.

This fundraiser also helped pay for the zoo's new splash pad that should open next month.

"We encourage people to come out to the zoo and become members of the zoological society. There are benefits to that, including free admission to the zoo for a year. And all that money again, all those proceeds go back to the zoo," Fluke said.

The zoological society is also planning a campaign later this year to bring back the train to zoo.
