GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Students at Grambling State University will hold a vigil in honor of Alexandria Shelton on campus.

School officials say that students approached the administration about the vigil, and were given permission.

The vigil will be at 11:00 AM Thursday on The Yard, between Barnes & Noble bookstore and Tiger Express.

Groups of students organized it, sought permission and it will be held.

Students include some from the criminal justice major, the Tiger Ambassadors, Student Government Association and the Favrot Student Union Board.

Shelton's body was found at a Lafayette Park on Saturday evening.  Lafayette Police say that the scene was suspicious, however, a preliminary coroner's report declared the death an accidental drowning.

Officials at GSU say that the atmosphere on campus has been solemn since the news of the death.  Shelton was set to graduate on May 9 with a criminal justice degree.
