MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) – The Ouachita Parish public preschool application period begins April 14 and runs through April 25. The new longer application period will ensure that every eligible child's application is reviewed and considered for entry into publicly-funded, high-quality preschool programs.

"Ouachita Parish was selected as a Department of Education Early Childhood Community Network Pilot," said Maureen Gallagher, Early Childhood Director at the Children's Coalition for Northeast Louisiana. "This means all publicly funded preschool programs must now expand their enrollment period to ensure more children who are in need of these preschool programs have a chance to apply."

Unlike previous years, the application process runs for two weeks and is no longer operating on a "first come, first served" basis. Those submitting an application to register their preschooler will not have to wait in long lines and every application will be reviewed.

"A new website is available as a resource for parents preparing for the process of enrolling their four-year-olds in preschool and looking for quality programs for younger children as well," said Gallagher. "The website is designed to be a resource for families about early childhood application information, to provide information about the importance of the earliest years and choosing a quality early childhood program."

Visit QualityIsMyChoice.com for more information on the application period, including helpful advice to prepare for the application process, the qualifications for publicly-funded programs, what programs are taking applications and what to bring when you apply.
