Beckwith's son to finish out term as Tallulah Mayor

Posted: Updated:

TALLULAH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Tallulah City Council has voted for Michael Beckwith, the son of the late Mayor Eddie Beckwith, Jr., as interim mayor.

At Thursday's meeting, the council approved to appoint Michael Beckwith to serve as interim mayor before a new mayor is elected on May 3.

The late Mayor Eddie Beckwith, Jr. was seeking a third term when he died two weeks ago. His death prompted the SEcretary of State to reopen the qualifying period in the mayor's race, pushing the election to May.

Michael Beckwith will now finish his father's term as mayor, and after June 31st the mayor-elect will take over.

Tallulah has a new acting Mayor. Michael Beckwith, son of the former Mayor, the late Eddie Beckwith, Jr., was appointed interim Mayor to fill the unexpired term of his father that runs until June 30th. A large crowd was on hand at City Call chambers for the ceremony tonight.
