GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Grambling State University President Frank Pogue is ready to move on.

On Wednesday, he alerted University of Louisiana System leaders of his plans to retire, on Thursday he made those plans public.

Pogue says his time at Grambling was an enriching experience.

The president served the university for the past five years and his decision to leave comes after a year of turmoil on campus, including a walkout by football players and drastic budget cuts.

President Pogue denies those struggles are the reason for his decision.

Pogue is just retiring as president at GSU, he will continue to work at his consulting firm which ironically helps other universities locate presidential candidates.
