COLUMBIA, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - The University of Louisiana at Monroe's biology department will host the second annual "Bioblitz" to document as many kinds of plants and animals as possible in one day in one area. It will be at the Dr. Charles Allen Nature Preserve in Columbia.

Botany and biology students and faculty members will lead hikes through the rolling Ouachita Hills, helping hikers identify what they see.

The day will also include live animal exhibits and resources to aid in the identification of Louisiana plants and animals.

It's from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Registration is required but free.

Water will be provided but guests are encouraged to bring extra fluids and to pack a lunch.
