New water means new bill

Posted: Updated:

SWARTZ, La. (KNOE 8 News)-No more brown water. That's the promise made to former LWC water customers after it's sale earlier this week to Greater Ouachita.

But with that sale came a new bill.

They are happy about the new water expected to come their way but not the extra change coming out of their pockets.

These former LWC customers now have received word that their new water bills are going up.

This will only apply to the new customers who were formally with LWC because the current greater Ouachita customers have already been paying those rates.

This week the more than five-thousand water customers were notified that their water carriers were changing from the troubled LWC to Greater Ouachita.

"Its telling us our bill is going up which I don't think is fair because we have been paying a low rate on our water anyway. I mean that's a lot of money to be paying out of our pocket" says Shemeko Hopkins.

Hopkins says her bill with LWC was around 34 dollars a month and now with Greater Ouachita she is expecting it to nearly double.
