REEVES, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - West Allen Parish Water District has received more than $3.4 million to upgrade its drinking water system.

Water District Board President Rusty Reeves says the State Bond Commission recently approved the issuance of $3.44 million in water revenue and refunding bonds for the project.

Reeves says the funds will be used to replace 34 miles of water lines that are outdated and insufficient in size. Additional loops and lines will be added to eliminate some "dead end" areas.

The project will include nearly 20 miles of new pipes for loops and service to nearly 30 new customers in the LeBlanc area. Also, a 100,000-gallon storage tank will be built in the Beau-Allen area.
