West Monroe Marshal's offices lost $3300

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Independent auditors say the West Monroe City Marshal's Office lost $3,300 in deposits in the last fiscal year, the second time in recent years money has been lost by the office.

In 2011, an employee was accused of embezzling $42,000 over a five-year period.

The report, released Monday by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, also noted the marshal did not make timely deposits of cash receipts and did not perform reconciliations promptly.

Auditors found two instances of cash being received but not deposited into the bank and the office could not locate the $3,300.

Marshal William Guyton said the person handling the cash receipts for both instances was terminated.
