YMCA does not renew partnership with ULM Natatorium

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- As swimmers left Oxford Natatorium at ULM they were given a piece of paper.

It informed them come April 30th the YMCA will no longer offer pool services at the Oxford Natatorium.

That message has left many wondering if the pool is done for good and where they will get in their daily exercise. The YMCA decided to discontinue use of the ULM pool.

A partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield has allowed them to buy a mobile unit. The unit with life jackets and other water fitness equipment will now be taken to multiple pools in the Monroe area.

As for the future of the aging facility, ULM President Nick Bruno hopes the building will be re-purposed, since students have expressed no interest in it as a natatorium.

The Y's Ronita Ross tells me they will work with the university over the next 30 days to make a smooth transition.

The Y is also in talks with the City of Monroe to relocate programs to the Marbles and Johnson Community Centers, both of which have swimming pools.
