MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Jeff Pope, the man who shot himself after a seven hour stand off with Monroe Police, has died.

Pope died Saturday after being in critical condition at St. Francis Medical Center since Wednesday.

It all began Tuesday night, when police say Pope barricaded himself in his mother's home, on Oakmont Street.

Pope was charged in a string of burglaries and had a history of being arrested.

Members of SWAT, the bomb squad, and other law enforcement moved in when police say Pope showed a gun and fired a shot in the air outside the home.

Pope ended up shooting himself, at about 2:30 AM Wednesday.
